IMCU Raises $48,000 for School Supplies, and Is Not Done Yet!
As of March 2009, Indiana Members Credit Union, along with extremely generous members, has raised a total of $48,000 to supply children with needed school supplies. This total is a result of selling 30,944 candy bars at the 24 IMCU branches in Central Indiana, as well as donations from an employee fundraiser, “Bowling for Backpacks”.
It’s reported that 75% percent of the families in the Indianapolis Public Schools (IPS) need help with basic school supplies! IMCU has partnered with programs in Marion and surrounding counties to provide underprivileged children the supplies they need to start the school year. IMCU has purchased 2,500 backpacks with the money raised so far, and is well on the way to filling them. IMCU employees plan to volunteer their time to fill the backpacks at the “Stuffing Party” in August.
Saturday May 16th, Indiana Members is hosting a Rummage Sale and Car Wash at the Southside Offices located at 5103 Madison Ave. in Indianapolis. Proceeds from the Rummage Sale (8am to 2pm) and the Car Wash (11am to 2pm) will assist in purchasing the supplies needed to complete the backpacks. In all, more than 62,500 supplies will be donated, including: notebooks, carabiners, folders, colored pencils, crayons, markers, a ruler, and an art box containing pens, pencils, an eraser, pencil sharpener, calculator, glue, and scissors.
Ron Collier, CEO of Indiana Members Credit Union, comments on the success of the campaign thus far, “Supporting educational needs has significant meaning to all of us at the credit union, including the members, employees, and the board of directors, especially since we were founded on the campus of IUPUI over 50 years ago. We encourage others to help us in this effort to aid our children with their education.”
